ROUGE OF THE SUBCONSCIOUS

EXPLORING B. LEN'S REALITY

Have you ever looked at something and have it totally shock you? To the point where you’re barely focused on the piece itself, but more so wrapped in wondering what the creator was thinking? This is exactly the kind of intense curiosity and confusion that B. Len hopes to achieve within every spectator of his art.

The Chicago native, who started out drawing, has just picked up the skill of painting only a summer ago. Using mostly acrylic and oil paints, he refers to his painting, as well as his drawing, as his “hand writing”, reflecting on how naturally the skill comes to him.

"My strokes are like puzzle pieces in the most simplistic way to describe them. I literally base whatever I draw from in the back of my mind and my subconscious gets translated vividly onto my canvas. I keep making those pieces layer by layer until my mode flicks off like a switch, and at that moment, I'm finished."

His pieces tell more than one story at a time, and it’s easy to get caught up trying to follow the narrative. Even from afar (from the screen of my phone), I found myself hearing beats and rhymes as I wondered about the inspiration behind “BAMO - 3”, and trying to picture the headless woman’s voice in “Miss Bug Bottom”. This is a skill that all artists need in this day in age; the ability to bring you to the gallery, in just as much awe, enthralled in just as much wonder, without looking up from your screens. For those of us who find ourselves needing more, B. Len has been gracious enough to place his art for sale.

"I've never completed a painting that I planned out prior to starting, once I play my music my subconscious always takes over and I go into my own space where I see  & hear my strokes come to life as I paint them."

B.Len and all of his glorious pieces of work can be found on Instagram @b._len. He is consistently working on new pieces for us to enjoy and purchase for ourselves.
