October Affirmations
At the top of September, I did a values exercise that consisted of me tallying up where I spent all my time and energy in the month of August. I categorized each thing under spiritual practices, creative work, exercise, and collaboration. I was very pleased to realize that I’d been extremely consistent and productive in the month of August. I didn’t slip on any of my daily routines and I got a lot of work done. What I noticed, however, is that in order to accomplish all that I did, I sacrificed my relationships. The collaboration portion was for any time I spent with another human. Whether that was for work or play. I had three tallies, while all my other tallies averaged around thirty.
This showed me that while I was getting a lot accomplished, I still wasn’t accomplishing balance. I was neglecting my tribe. As we experienced the loss of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, I came across this quote by her that put a lot of perspective into my thought around this.
“Fight for the things that you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you.” -Ruth Bader Ginsburg
I took this message to be telling me, “do what you know you have to, but know that you don’t have to do it alone.” While the quote itself is giving me activist vibes, I think this can apply in a lot of ways. I think it’s important that we don’t isolate ourselves completely. I think it’s important to keep our connections in tact while we are on our individual journeys. If this year has taught me anything, it’s that our relationships are so important. If we are able and allowed to connect, please do so.
Here are some affirmations that my heart thought up around this:
I am capable of leading.
I am capable of being expressive as well as kind.
I connect with myself to better connect with others.
I am a pivotal part of my community.
I accept others’ points of view while standing firm on my own.
I encourage individuality from myself and those around me.
I am passionate and unwavering in exhibiting what is right.
By bettering myself, I show up better for others.
On the pursuit of personal growth and development, it’s important to know that you don’t have to be a recluse to do it. It’s important that we keep our connections close to heart and mind, as we are all working to better ourselves, and in turn, better our world.
