#SHOTSFIREDBAE

Happy Monday all! It is that dreaded first day of the week. Most of us are just pulling ourselves out of the black hole known as “the weekend”. Shaking off the cobwebs, making a cup of coffee, and watching the clock as we settle in for another day of work. However, thanks to all my fellow social media millennials Mondays have been given a new meaning. Today is not merely the beginning of the work/school week. Today is Man Crush Monday!!!

While there are many men that I have insane crushes on, (i.e Usher, J. Cole, Idris Elba..), today my focus is on the amazingly talented Mack Wilds. Mr. Wilds is a singer, songwriter, and actor. One of his most recent acting endeavors is on a television show called Shots Fired. Let me just say I AM IN LOVE. I could not be more proud of all my brothers and sisters that contributed to the success of the show, and let me be the first to tell you that the creators, writers, lead characters, and even the sound track is made by my people, our people.

The show centers on a small town in North Carolina where a black cop, officer Beck (Mack Wilds) shoots and kills a young white male. The Mayor calls for an extensive investigation of the murder. Investigator Ashe Akino (Sanaa Lathan) and prosecutor Preston Terry (Stephan James) are flown into town to figure out the truth behind the murder. While there, they discover that there have been multiple slain black children in the town. In fact, just two weeks prior to the death of the white male, a young black man had been killed and the family had been given no answers. They had only been told by the cops to keep quiet. Ashe and Preston quickly discover that in order to find the truth they must solve both murders.

The integrity and the wit of this show is astounding. It is extremely informative as well as entertaining for an audience of any color to watch. While one could assume that because the show is created by a Black man, it would only show one point of view; that couldn’t be further from the truth. Only two episodes in, and it is difficult to tell who the good guys are and who the bad guys are. From investigator Ashe with the chip on her shoulder, the seemingly innocent officer Beck, down to the corrupt preacher, it’s impossible to predict which way the show is going to go.

Without giving away any spoilers, just trust me, this show is a must see! It’s a 10-part drama that plays every Wednesday at 7 o'clock on Fox (even crazier right). Tune in this week with me, watch my #ShotsFiredBae, and let me know what you guys think!
